iGrowlersWorld - Exploring Tech and Innovation!

INDEX

< Sony Ericsson Xperia x10i Smartphone | Amazon Kindle E-book Reader >

Innovation is most clearly seen in the form of new technology and cool gadgets. Hardware or software. Whether it is mobile phones, laptops, operating systems or anything else. This drive to produce the next best thing, to make it smaller, more powerful and more helpful has been going on for centuries and is awesome to behold. With smartphones, tablet computers and more being unleashed unto the world by inspiring inventors, iGrowlersWorld is where I add my commentary on this cool industry.

Rawle Austin presents...

Tablet Computers. Touchscreen technology first caught my eye through sci-fi movies. First in Minority Report, then The Matrix Reloaded and lately to spectacular effect, in both Iron Man movies. So imagine my amazement when I saw Apple and Steve Jobs pioneering touchscreen technology through the iPod Touch, iPhone and now the iPad! This is truly sci-fi come to life in our lifetime and its only getting better.

The Apple iPad is a Tablet Computer which is a portable device which is bigger than a Smartphone but smaller than a laptop. It uses touchscreen technology and does all the things a laptop can do but is much lighter. It can go online and you can customise it by adding your favourite applications, apps, but by far the best use of it would be for reading. Ladies and gentlemen, the digital age has truly arrived. Books, magazines, newspapers and my favourite, superhero comic books and graphic novels can now be stored in digital form and read on the device. The storage space solution has been solved. Boxes of comic books and libraries of books and magazines can now be a fingertip away making people much more mobile.

Introducing the Apple iPad

The iPad is the clear market leader in tablet computers other companies are rushing to catch up. Soon you will see devices from a multitude of innovative sources and no doubt many of them will use the Android operating system. But for now, the iPad rules the roost. I love the concept of the pinch and zoom feature when surfing the net and viewing websites.

The Apple iPad in action

The Apple iPad is a great way to read digital books. Apple has its own e-book reader software called iBooks and hundreds of titles are available to read. Best of all however is the ability to read digital superhero comic books in full vibrant colour. There is no competition in this at the moment as the iPad is the only tablet computer that has apps from Marvel and DC Comics. These comic book publishers vast back catalogue of titles and their new stuff is available to read on the Apple iPad in a very cool experience.

The iPad is also a cool way to watch a film or TV on its big 9.7 inch screen. It's light, thin portability make it a great alternative to the much heavier laptop. All in all, it is another step closer to a mythical all-in-one device that does everything. The device that would eliminate the need to carry around multiple devices. An improved version of the iPad is on the way and the technology and innovation contained within will improve as lessons will be learnt from how the first model was recieved and used. That is the hallmark of evolutionary learning and progress. It's what puts Apple in with the leaders of technological advancement. Very cool to behold.
